Windows vista black screen no icons

Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. So I ran to this exact same issue and have tried what you suggested but it doesn't allow me to do the ctrl shift esc.

Ctrl alt delete doesn't work. Nothing is working. I have never looked so hard for a solution before and not come up with one or been successful In reply to RummelR's post on September 7, Make a "New Task Type "explorer. This is not a solution but you can use it while searching for one. BTW, I've had so many issues with Vista such as this black screen that I've decided to make drive images frequently.

So if something goes wrong I'll backup my recent files and restore the image. You may have to kill explorer end task prior to starting a new instance of it If I shut down and restart explorer, the desktop suddenly appears. I am going to try to get a system restore to run, but when I tried it yesterday, the computer froze when I tried it. I hate Microsoft. I'm having a similar maybe the same, I don't know issue, but in my case I'm not sure if it is Vista or some driver package.

The screen will flash and then it will be black with only the cursor. I can do a ctrl-alt-del and see the login screen, but after typing in my password it simply goes to black.

The strange thing is that it never happens when I am docked. May not be your answer but it will affect a lot of people. Hi everyone. I also got the black screen lurgy and it took me a while but realised the problem was with the background picture no longer existing. The desktop background had changed by some glitch and cut off the background picture leaving everything black as pitch and most unerving it was too.

Anyways I re installed the background pix and also the screen saver and the problem was fixed. I do not know the cause of the blackness but did grasp what that black thing was. It happened a few times but then i knew what to do. Also I had problems with the keyboard lurgy.

It took a while before certain keys would work. The problem was the most oddest thing it was the mouse I was using. Yes the mouse was causing the glitch. I only discovered that by accident whilst trying to figure out problems i was getting onm my computer and I went through everything looking for solutions. Then on one of the help supports it explained certain problem with a mouse. The lack of operation on the keyboard was one such system. I changed the mouse which i fortunately had and the problem has not returned.

I add that the keyboard can also be at fault if not compatable. Often with new Keyboards a disc is with the item to install on the computer to resolve the problem. However in my view change your mouse first as you will find that is the most probable suspect.

I became a believer when i changed my mouse and my keyboard worked fine ever since. Usually you only get a 5 day leeway but oft it has solved problems I got. I have the same issue. I was just watching the Big Bang Theory Season 3, then boom! I rebooted, turned to safe mode.

Restarted then opened a video again. Blue screen again. Then rebooted. Safe mode then shut it down. When I started it again, all i get is a black screen.

No warning sounds just the noise of the fan. The lights are disk and battery lights are on but nothing is showing up on the monitor. If I had known that HP computers are having this kind of problem, I wouldn't have bought this stylish laptop. I would rather have a common looking laptop that lasts than this!

Ones you are one "computer you should be able to see drive "C", right click Drive "C" go to properties, in there select "disk Clean up". After the pc updated I couldn't use Google Chrome it crashed and said "Whoa Google Chrome stopped working" so after reading a couple of posts I decided to restore the pc. So after I did that it worked fine.

The next day Chrome stopped working again and so did my Mozilla Firefox it said XPCOM could not be found and I think this was because as I was shutting down the night before there were more updates running on the pc. So I restored around 4 or 5 times and the last time I did this and restarted the computer it was taking a really long time with a black screen with only the mouse showing so I shut it down by pressing the power button down bad I know.

Now, every time I power it on, you can see the Windows loading screen with the little bars at the bottom and then there's a black screen with white text asking what mode to use safe mode, normal mode, etc. However, after this then it goes to a black screen with only the mouse showing. Anybody know how to fix this? Is there anything I can do? The content you requested has been removed. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. Remove From My Forums. Answered by:.

This post looks at the blank screen issue and the only solution that has worked for me, which is to create a new user profile each time it happens. The computer starts up fine and presents the Windows Vista login screen with the users listed.
